Portrait of Shane Howard 2011 by Nathan David Kelly

I created this portrait of Shane Howard in 2011 and it is part of a larger project I am currently working on.

For my entire career I have been interested in creating portraits of famous people….and I have always been drawn to musicians…I love music and I love seeing musicians perform live.

Recently I had the oppurtunity to photograph Shane Howard.

He is a legendary Australian singer and songwriter best known for the massive hits he had with his band “Goanna” including “Solid Rock” probably the first song that dealt with Aboriginal land rights issues to go mainstream in thic country.

As a photographer it is great to see your photographs out in the world being used…rather than as articfacts framed, archivally stored and locked away like my images that are owned by The National Library, The National Portrait Gallery and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City ( in fact most musuems only ever have less than 10% of their collection on display at any one time).

Shane is a great guy very appraochable and friendly and he is also a great performer…..

Ceremony:-  Cairns Botanic Garden

Reception:- Rydges Tradewinds

It had been raining throughout the week leading up to Sharon and Carey’s wedding and whilst overcast on the day the rain held off.

Sharon and her bridesmaids all got ready in her room at Rydges Tradewinds which was a lovely spot to take images of them all especially on the balcony overlooking Trinity Inlet. From there they were picked up in Classic cars and taken to The Botanic Gardens where Carey and the groomsmen were waiting nervously.

Sharon and Carey met in Mount Isa in 2007 where they were both police officers stationed there.  It wasn’t exactly love at first sight but after a solid friendship and soon love began to blossom.

Carey proposed to Sharon at Kurumba overlooking a sunset over the ocean.  Carey was so nervous he broke the box the ring was in.

After the ceremony we did photographs in several locations including The Botanical Gardens, Trinity Beach, Aeroglen, Redlynch and the esplanade. As with all of my packages I do not place a limit on the number of locations or photographs you will receive on disk.

After a beautiful wedding the newly married couple headed off to Thailand for their Honeymoon.
